Is HYCM a good broker? Our verdict

HYCM is a reasonable fit for traders who want a choice between fixed, variable and raw-spread CFD accounts, but less suitable for anyone seeking ownership of shares or unrestricted automation on every account. Its clearest practical strengths are a $20 minimum deposit, MT4 and MT5 access, and a UK-operated service regulated by the FCA. The main trade-offs are that the spreads shown are indicative minimums rather than typical trading costs, and the Fixed account bars Expert Advisors. Account choice matters: the Fixed and Classic accounts charge no commission, while Raw adds a commission that varies by instrument. HYCM also widens spreads during its stated midnight session, which can change the cost for positions opened or held around that period. The right fit therefore depends on whether the account's pricing and automation rules match the way you trade, rather than on the headline spread alone.

What stands out

  • Each listed retail account has a $20 minimum deposit, giving new clients a low entry threshold.
  • Classic and Raw accounts permit Expert Advisors, while MT4 and MT5 provide established desktop, web and mobile trading options.
  • HYCM advertises hedging as permitted, a useful feature for traders who manage offsetting positions.

What to consider

  • The Fixed account restricts Expert Advisor use, limiting its suitability for traders who rely on automated strategies.
  • HYCM says spreads widen during the midnight session, stated as 8pm–6am GMT, which can raise costs during that period.

Who owns HYCM and where is it based?

Review score2.8/ 5

HYCM is a CFD broker offering forex, stock CFDs, indices and commodities through fixed-, variable- and raw-spread accounts. The UK service is operated by HYCM Capital Markets (UK) Limited. HYCM describes its group as having more than 40 years of cumulative experience and providing services in over 140 countries; these are group-level claims, not figures for the UK entity alone.

The account structure shows how trading charges are collected: Fixed and Classic accounts have no commission, while Raw charges commission on specified products. HYCM therefore combines spread-based pricing with commissions on the Raw account. It does not describe its execution model as market-making, agency or ECN/STP in the reviewed account and company descriptions, so those labels cannot be applied to its business model. HYCM says the group has six offices in leading financial centres.

Is HYCM safe, legit and regulated?

Review score4.0/ 5

HYCM Capital Markets (UK) Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), reference number 186171. HYCM’s UK service is operated by this entity, but the site does not identify whether every customer using it contracts with that entity. The distinction matters because a licence and protections associated with one company do not automatically apply to every HYCM customer.

HYCM advertises negative balance protection and says client funds are kept in Tier-1 banks. The FCA authorisation is a financial-services authorisation, rather than merely a corporate registration.

HYCM’s shared restrictions notice names Afghanistan, Belgium, Hong Kong, Japan and the United States among jurisdictions where it does not offer services, alongside other regions. That restriction is distinct from the scope of the UK entity’s FCA authorisation. Regulation does not remove market, counterparty or trading risk.

HYCM fees, spreads and commissions

Review score3.6/ 5

HYCM’s three accounts use different pricing. The Fixed account advertises spreads from 1.5 pips and no commission; Classic advertises variable spreads from 1.2 pips, also with no commission. Raw advertises spreads from 0.1 pips and charges commission: $4 per round for FX, $5 per round for metals, and $0 to $5 per round for other products. The account comparison labels these commissions per round, rather than per side.

What do HYCM’s headline spreads mean?

HYCM labels the account spreads as indicative and directs clients to the trading terminal for real spread values. They are minimum figures, not a guide to the spread a trader will typically pay. HYCM also says spreads widen during the midnight session, given as 8pm–6am GMT, with some products potentially using different hours; fixed spreads widen during that session too. As a result, the advertised minimum alone cannot establish the all-in cost of a particular trade.

Which other charges can affect the total?

HYCM says it does not charge for deposits, though a bank may deduct its own charges from the amount received. The payment information displays a $20 minimum and lists USD, EUR and GBP as payment currencies. Account base currencies are a separate matter: Fixed lists USD, while Classic and Raw list EUR, USD and GBP.

Swap-free status is advertised only for certain products. The main cost to compare for a short-term trader is the live spread, plus any Raw commission; for a multi-night position, the applicable financing terms also affect the total.

HYCM account types and minimum deposit

Review score4.1/ 5

All three listed accounts have a $20 minimum deposit: Fixed, Classic and Raw. HYCM lists spreads from 1.5 pips on Fixed, variable spreads from 1.2 pips on Classic, and raw spreads from 0.1 pips on Raw; the Raw account also charges commission by product.

Which account fits your trading style?

Fixed may suit a trader who values a fixed-spread structure and does not use Expert Advisors. It is available through HYCM Trader, MT4 and MT5, has USD as its listed base currency, and restricts Expert Advisor use. Classic has variable spreads, no commission, EUR/USD/GBP base currencies, and MT4 and MT5 access; Expert Advisors are permitted. Raw is also available on MT4 and MT5, lists EUR/USD/GBP, permits Expert Advisors and applies the instrument-dependent commissions set out in its pricing terms. The minimum trade volume listed for each is 0.01.

HYCM advertises maximum leverage of 1:30 on its UK service. Product limits differ by market, so the figure for an account does not mean the same leverage applies to every instrument.

Are demo and swap-free accounts available?

HYCM offers live and demo accounts and says swap-free treatment applies to certain products. It also lists special VIP and corporate accounts for clients who trade larger volumes. VIP features include a dedicated account manager, market analytics and better spreads for Fixed accounts. These are distinct account variants, not a replacement for the three retail pricing structures.

Leverage, margin and order execution

Review score3.3/ 5

HYCM advertises maximum leverage of 1:30 for forex, 1:5 for stock CFDs, and 1:20 for indices and commodities on its UK product offering. These are product-level maximums, not a single leverage rate that applies across all markets. Each of the Fixed, Classic and Raw account comparisons lists a minimum trade volume of 0.01.

HYCM says hedging is allowed. Its Fixed account excludes Expert Advisors, while its account comparison permits them on Classic and Raw. MT4 and MT5 support automated trading applications, but the account-specific restriction means platform capability alone does not determine whether automation is available on a given account.

HYCM promotes “various order types” without naming them in the product and account descriptions. It advertises an average execution time under 12 ms in its company overview, while its product information labels 12 ms as the average execution time for MT4. These are broker-advertised figures, not independent measurements, and they have different stated scopes. HYCM’s leverage, spread and execution terms should be considered together when assessing a strategy, especially where positions are held through its stated spread-widening session.

What can you trade with HYCM?

Review score3.1/ 5

HYCM offers CFDs on forex, shares, indices and commodities. Its product descriptions identify stock CFDs rather than purchases of underlying shares, so those positions provide price exposure without share ownership. The range includes examples such as Alibaba, Alphabet, Amazon and Apple stock CFDs, alongside currency pairs, index products and commodity contracts.

Which markets are represented?

The index category includes more than 15 popular indices, with examples such as AUS200, China 300, China H-Shares and EUR50. The commodities examples include Brent, cocoa, coffee and copper. The product descriptions state that commodity trading does not involve owning the financial instrument on which a contract is based. These examples show a spread across several CFD markets, but the listed examples are not a complete instrument inventory.

Forex product entries show account-dependent spreads and access through MT4, MT5 or HYCM Trader, with platform availability varying by instrument. The stock CFD examples shown are listed on MT4, while index and commodity entries include MT4, MT5 and HYCM Trader in varying combinations. Traders choosing a platform for a particular market therefore need to distinguish the overall platform lineup from the platforms listed for individual instruments.

HYCM trading platforms and app

Review score4.2/ 5

HYCM offers its HYCM Trader app, MetaTrader 4 (MT4), MetaTrader 5 (MT5), and browser-based Web Terminals for MT4 and MT5. The Web Terminals let users trade from a browser without installing the desktop application. HYCM Trader is available on Android and iOS; HYCM says it can manage accounts and trade more than 300 instruments, and it includes personalised price notifications.

What can MT4 and MT5 do?

HYCM lists Windows downloads for both MetaTrader platforms. Its MT4 description highlights technical analysis, flexible trading systems and Expert Advisors, and says a mobile app is available. MT5 is described as supporting technical and fundamental analysis, flexible trading systems and automated trading applications. HYCM also offers web access to both platforms. This gives traders a choice of established tools across desktop and browser, with mobile availability explicitly described for MT4 and HYCM Trader.

The platform and account combination matters for automation: the Fixed account excludes Expert Advisors, whereas Classic and Raw permit them. HYCM Trader’s account-management and trading features are separate from the MetaTrader automation tools, and its listed personalised alerts are for price notifications. The product listings also associate different instruments with different platforms, so the availability of an app does not imply that every instrument is tradable through it.

Opening an account, deposits and withdrawal times

Review score2.8/ 5

HYCM describes account opening as a three-step process: register, submit the required documents or information for verification, then deposit funds. It says profile registration takes less than two minutes; that is the broker’s estimate for registration, not a stated time for completing identity checks or opening a funded account. HYCM names the United States, Afghanistan, Belgium, Hong Kong and Japan among restricted jurisdictions, as well as some other regions.

How can you fund an account?

The payment information lists a $20 minimum and USD, EUR and GBP as payment currencies. HYCM says it charges no deposit fee, while warning that banks may impose charges that reduce the amount received. Account base currencies depend on account type: Fixed lists USD, and Classic and Raw list EUR, USD and GBP. Payment currencies and account base currencies are separate terms.

What happens when you withdraw?

Its payment table includes processing-time figures, but the method labels are not available with those figures, so they cannot be reliably connected to a particular withdrawal route. The practical withdrawal timetable therefore depends on the method rather than a single verified processing estimate.

Research, education and customer support

Review score2.7/ 5

HYCM lists an economic calendar and calculators among its account-related tools. VIP accounts include “comprehensive market analytics,” according to the broker, alongside a dedicated account manager; HYCM does not describe the analytics provider or a publication schedule. These tools may support routine market monitoring and calculations, while the VIP analytics are an account-specific feature rather than a general retail account benefit.

HYCM provides a Help Center and live chat as customer-support routes. The service channels are identified, but no measured response or resolution outcome is available to characterise their quality.

The educational resources identified in the current account and company descriptions are limited to the Help Center and platform-related information.

HYCM alternatives worth comparing

A trader who needs automated strategies should compare HYCM’s Fixed account with a fixed-spread account that permits Expert Advisors: HYCM bars EAs on Fixed, while its Classic and Raw accounts allow them. The useful comparison is whether another broker permits automation on the same pricing type, rather than whether it offers MetaTrader in general.

For traders weighing advertised spread costs, compare HYCM’s minimums with competitors’ typical spreads and round-trip charges on the same instruments. HYCM’s account figures are indicative minimums, and Raw adds product-specific commission, so a raw-spread headline alone is not a like-for-like cost comparison.

Checks to make before you open an account

Choose the pricing structure around how you trade: Fixed and Classic have no commission, while Raw combines a lower advertised minimum spread with instrument-specific commission. If automated strategies are central to your approach, avoid treating platform support as sufficient; HYCM’s Fixed account does not allow Expert Advisors, while Classic and Raw do.

Also match the instrument and platform before funding. HYCM’s product listings associate some instruments with particular platforms, and its swap-free treatment applies only to certain products. These choices determine whether the account’s actual trading conditions suit the strategy you intend to run.

HYCM FAQ

01

Is HYCM regulated?

HYCM Capital Markets (UK) Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, reference number 186171. HYCM’s UK service is operated by that company, but the entity holding a particular customer account is not identified for every customer.

02

Is HYCM safe?

The UK entity is FCA-authorised, and HYCM advertises negative balance protection and says client funds are kept in Tier-1 banks. Those statements do not name a compensation scheme or coverage limit, and they should not be taken as a guarantee against trading or counterparty losses.

03

What is HYCM’s minimum deposit?

HYCM lists a $20 minimum deposit for each of its Fixed, Classic and Raw accounts. The account comparison also lists USD as the Fixed account’s base currency and EUR, USD and GBP for Classic and Raw.

04

Does HYCM offer MT4 or MT5?

Yes. HYCM offers both MT4 and MT5, with Windows downloads and browser-based Web Terminals. MT4 supports Expert Advisors, and MT5 is described as compatible with automated trading applications; account restrictions still apply, including the Fixed account’s ban on Expert Advisors.

05

Does HYCM accept US clients?

No. HYCM’s restrictions notice names residents of the United States among those to whom it does not offer services. The same notice also names Afghanistan, Belgium, Hong Kong and Japan, alongside other jurisdictions.

06

Does HYCM charge commission?

The Fixed and Classic accounts list no commission. Raw charges $4 per round for FX, $5 per round for metals, and $0 to $5 per round for other products. HYCM labels its account spreads as indicative minimums, so those amounts alone do not show the typical all-in cost.

Our broker reviews are based on a consistent evaluation process that combines independent research with practical testing. Rather than relying solely on information published by brokers, we verify key details wherever possible and assess each broker using the same set of criteria.

Our research begins with the broker's regulatory status. We verify licences with recognised financial authorities, review publicly available company information, and examine legal documents such as client agreements, fee schedules, and terms of business. This helps us understand how the broker operates and the protections available to clients.

Where possible, we open live accounts and test the broker's services ourselves. This allows us to evaluate the trading experience from account opening through funding, trading, and withdrawals.

Our reviews consider the following areas:

Regulation & Safety

We verify the broker's regulatory licences, investor protection measures, client fund segregation, and any available compensation schemes. We also consider the broker's operating history and regulatory record.

Trading Costs

We compare spreads, commissions, overnight financing (swap) charges, and other trading and non-trading fees. Since pricing can vary between account types and market conditions, we assess costs across the broker's available offerings.

Account Types

We review the broker's account options, minimum deposit requirements, leverage limits, execution models, and any features designed for different types of traders.

Markets & Instruments

We examine the range of available forex pairs and CFDs, including indices, commodities, shares, cryptocurrencies, and other supported markets where applicable.

Trading Platforms

We test the broker's web, desktop, and mobile platforms, paying attention to usability, available order types, charting tools, technical indicators, execution quality, and any support for automated or copy trading.

Deposits & Withdrawals

We review the available funding methods, processing times, fees, and the overall process for depositing and withdrawing funds.

Customer Support

We contact customer support through the available channels to assess response times, the quality of assistance provided, and the availability of support during trading hours.

Keeping Our Reviews Current

Broker services, pricing, and regulations can change over time. For that reason, we periodically review and update our content when significant changes occur or new information becomes available.
